VETASSESS: Priority Processing Service Changes & Urgent Criteria Updates

Immigration News

The process of skilled migration is a significant step for individuals seeking new opportunities and professional growth in countries like Australia. A crucial aspect of this process is the skills assessment, which validates an applicant's qualifications and suitability for specific occupations. The Vocational Education and Training Assessment Services (VETASSESS) in Australia offers a Priority Processing Service to expedite the assessment process for certain professional occupations. From July 31, VETASSESS is set to introduce changes to the Priority Processing Service, granting priority to applicants with evidence of urgent need. In this article, we will explore the updated criteria for priority processing and its implications for skilled migration applicants.

I. Understanding Priority Processing Service

The Priority Processing Service by VETASSESS aims to fast-track the skills assessment process for skilled migration applicants. It allows for a quicker turnaround time, ensuring that applicants with urgent needs receive priority allocation of assessment places. This service is available for both professional and general occupations, providing eligible applicants with a more streamlined pathway to their skilled migration goals.

II. Updated Criteria for Urgent Need

Starting July 31, VETASSESS will make changes to the Priority Processing Service, giving precedence to applicants with evidence of urgent need. To qualify for priority allocation, applicants must meet one or more of the following urgent criteria:

1. Invitation Expiry: If you have received an invitation from the Department of Home Affairs or an Australian state or territory government, and it has an expiry date, you may be eligible for priority processing.

2. Visa Expiry: If your current visa is set to expire within eight weeks, and you are unable to obtain another visa, you can apply for priority processing.

3. Age Milestones: If you are turning 33, 40, or 45 within eight weeks, you may qualify for priority allocation to expedite your skills assessment.

4. English Test Result Expiry: If your English test result (IELTS or PTE) is set to expire within eight weeks, you can apply for priority processing to avoid any delays in your application.

5. Partner Skills Assessment or English Test Expiry: If your partner's skills assessment or English test result is set to expire within eight weeks, you may be eligible for priority allocation.

III. Impact of Changes on Priority Processing

With the updated criteria, VETASSESS aims to provide more efficient services to applicants who have pressing reasons to expedite their skills assessment. By granting priority to those with urgent needs, the assessment process becomes more flexible and responsive, facilitating smoother transitions for skilled migrants. These changes are likely to result in quicker assessment times for eligible applicants, reducing uncertainties and allowing them to proceed with their migration plans promptly.

IV. Applying for Priority Processing

Applicants who have an urgent need as per the specified criteria can apply for priority processing through the VETASSESS website. It is essential to provide relevant supporting documents and evidence to substantiate the urgency of your situation. VETASSESS will allocate places based on the level of urgency presented by applicants. If all places are not filled by applicants with urgent needs, the remaining slots will be offered to other applicants in the queue.
