ââââââA new Priority Migration Skilled Occupation List (PMSOL) was announced on Wednesday, 22 June 2021.
Skilled Migration Occupation Lists
Australia’s skilled visa programs are made up 3 main lists:
- Short-Term Skilled Occupation List
- Medium and Long-Term Strategic Skills List
- Regional Occupation List
These are regularly reviewed to ensure they reflect genuine skills needs and help businesses continue to grow if skilled Australian workers are not available.
The current skills list can be found on the Department of Home Affairs website.
Priority Migration Skilled Occupation List (PMSOL)
The Minister for Immigration, Citizenship, Migrant Services and Multicultural Affairs Alex Hawke MP has today announced the inclusion of a range of skilled occupations on the Priority Migration Skilled Occupation List (PMSOL).
PMSOL was first announced in September 2020 aims promote critical occupations to be filled to continue to create Australian jobs and aid in Australia’s ongoing recovery from the impact of COVID-19.
The addition of 22 occupations brings the PMSOL to 41 in total.
Changes to the PMSOL
22 June 2021–
Chefs, civil engineers and software programmers are among those now in line to have their visas prioritised for processing.
The PMSOL now consisting of 41 occupations was first developed in September last year in coordination with the National Skills Commission.

11 May 2021–
The occupation of Veterinarian (234711) has been added to the PMSOL.

Travel exemptions
While Australia’s border restrictions remain in place, temporary visa holders must obtain a travel exemption before travelling to Australia.
