What are Current Travel Restrictions in Queensland? All you need to know about international and domestic arrivals to Queensland

From 1am Saturday 22 January, Queensland's international quarantine restrictions will be lifted. 

This means arriving international travellers will no longer be required to undertake 14 days of quarantine at home or in a hotel if they are double-vaccinated.

International Arrivals into Queensland from overseas must complete both:

• a Queensland International Arrivals Registration

and

• the Australian Travel Declaration

Your Queensland International Arrivals Registration approval will outline the entry conditions you must comply with upon arrival.

Entering Queensland from overseas

From 1am Saturday 22 January 2022, fully vaccinated international arrivals will no longer be required to quarantine on arrival. They will be required to take a rapid antigen test within the first 24 hours of arriving.

Arriving from a safe travel zone country

If you arrive directly into Queensland from a safe travel zone country, you don’t need to quarantine if you meet certain conditions. 

International arrivals from safe travel zone countries can transit through Queensland and transfer to a domestic flight to leave Queensland without having to quarantine if they don’t leave the airport.

Arriving from a country NOT declared a safe travel zone

If you’re arriving on a direct international flight, you may enter Queensland if you:

• are an Australian citizen or permanent resident, or an immediate family member travelling with them
• are fully vaccinated
• take a negative COVID-19 PCR test within 72 hours prior to departure
• complete 14 days of home quarantine, subject to conditions set by Queensland Health
• take a COVID-19 PCR test on arrival

These arrivals will be uncapped. If you don’t meet these criteria, you’ll need to enter within Queensland’s international air arrivals cap and complete 14 days of quarantine in a government-arranged facility.

If you’ve been overseas in the past 14 days and are arriving via another Australian state or territory, you may enter Queensland if you:

• are fully vaccinated
• have completed 14 days of quarantine under the direction of another state or territory at home or in a government-nominated facility

If you don’t meet these criteria, you’ll need to meet the relevant requirements for entry to Queensland and must complete 14 days of quarantine in a government-arranged facility.

International travel restrictions will ease again when 90% of Queenslanders aged 16 or over are fully vaccinated.

Entering Queensland from overseas if you are not fully vaccinated 

You will need to meet the relevant requirements for entry and will be required to undertake a period of quarantine.

And a few conditions apply, including the requirement to take a RAT within 24 hours of arriving.

If you cannot meet the Queensland Health home quarantine criteria, you will be required to undertake an equivalent period of quarantine in a government-nominated facility.

Registering as an international arrival

The information collected in the registration process includes your contact details and who you are travelling which helps to determine suitable quarantine arrangements and allows us to contact you to provide additional information about your obligations in entering Queensland and other COVID-19 related purposes.

Children under the age of 18 travelling with their parent or guardian can be included in the parent or guardian’s registration and do not require an individual Queensland International Arrivals Registration.

Unaccompanied minors need to be met by a parent or guardian at the airport who consents to quarantine together with the minor for 14 days in government-arranged quarantine or home quarantine if the minor is eligible for home quarantine.

Please present your QR Code or Queensland International Arrivals Registration Pass to an Emergency Officer at the border check point upon arrival in Queensland or as requested at the government arranged quarantine accommodation.

Domestic travel into Queensland

Queensland domestic border restrictions have ended.

From 1am AEST Saturday 15 January 2022, domestic border restrictions for people entering from interstate are no longer in place.

You can enter Queensland from elsewhere in Australia without restrictions.

This means:

• You no longer need to apply for a border pass.
• You won’t need a negative COVID-19 test result to enter Queensland.
• You won’t need to quarantine if you are unvaccinated.

*Restrictions may apply if you have been overseas in the last 14 days and you did not enter in a quarantine free flight from a safe travel country.

Queensland restrictions

Once you’re in Queensland, you’ll need to show proof of vaccination to enter non-essential venues. 

People who leave Queensland are subject to the border restrictions of any state or territory they plan to enter.  

While in Queensland

While you are in Queensland, you must:

• monitor your health and get tested if you develop COVID-19 symptoms
• check in to venues using the Check in Qld app
• provide proof of vaccination to enter non-essential venues. (Tip: the Check in Qld app also allows you to link your vaccination certificate to the app.)
• follow face mask requirements.

If you or someone you live with (or are staying with in Queensland) has COVID-19

If you get COVID-19, isolate and follow the first steps if you have COVID-19.
